Volunteering


The Helpline recruits volunteers twice a year. You do not need any relevant qualifications or experience but a willingness to learn and a commitment of one shift per week either from:
9.45am – 1.00pm (morning shift) or
12.45pm – 4.00pm (afternoon shift) 
Monday – Friday
 
Below are some of the duties required by a volunteer:
 
General purpose of the Role
 
Volunteers may be expected to carry out some or all of the tasks listed below in order to provide support to women who have experienced or who are experiencing domestic abuse:
 
Services to Women
 
  1. To provide advice, information and support to women who telephone the Helpline
  2. To liase with relevant voluntary and statutory agencies such as health visitors, solicitors, housing officers and refuges and refer on where appropriate
  3. To provide basic advice and information on housing, welfare rights and legal options
  4. To take part in the day-to-day running of the office
General

 

  1. To comply with the aims and objectives of the Women’s Domestic Violence Helpline Equal Opportunities policy and practices at all times and to make sure they are applied in all aspects of work
  2. To work within Women’s Domestic Violence Helpline’s Health and Safety policy and procedure
  3. To attend volunteers team meetings
  4. To attend all relevant training
  5. To attend supervision and support sessions
