Volunteering


The Helpline is staffed by a team of dedicated volunteers. You can become one of our volunteers, if you can commit to a minimum of one shift (3 hours) per week, for one year. Helpline shifts are either morning or afternoon, Monday to Friday. We recruit for volunteers twice a year, in Spring and Autumn. The next intake of volunteers will commence on....

Training
The Helpline offers you full training before you begin your role as Helpline operator. This includes:
  • 3 days in-depth Domestic Abuse Awareness training
  • You will have the opportunity to work through our specialist Volunteer’s Workbook 12 weeks of ‘buddy training’ through which you will be supported by an experienced volunteer
  • Ongoing opportunities to access internal and external training courses on a range of issues, for example, Housing, Welfare Rights, Legal Remedies, Diversity, Listening Skills, Forced Marriage etc.
 
Employee Volunteering
Are you an employer who would like to develop the skills and training of your employees, and enhance the corporate social responsibility of your company or organisation?
 
Are you an employee who would like to benefit from giving some of your time to volunteering at the Helpline? Ask your employer if they have a policy on Employee Volunteering, and you may be able to nominate the WDAH as your project of choice.
